Brian Kinsley, 34, an English teacher at Poughkeepsie High School, was arrested on Tuesday, June 11 by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
Kinsley of the town of Shawangunk in Ulster County was arrested on a warrant following an investigation that revealed he was in possession of an inappropriate picture of a child that was downloaded from the internet, said Nevel.
School officials could not be reached for comment, but School Board meeting documents from August 29, 2018, meeting show he was hired to a four-year probationary term as an English teacher at a salary of $60,999. He was also appointed the head junior varsity football coach at the same meeting, at a salary of $3,234.
Before being hired full-time, Kinsley had worked as a replacement English teacher and as a district substitute teacher, according to board documents.
State police said the investigation is ongoing.
